Coqui Inn makes it easy to explore the culture and museums of Old San Juan and the new 'Arts & Museum' district of Santurce since the local bus runs close to many of the most important cultural attractions.
There is an excellent online map of Old San Juan at http://www.travelmaps.com/OldSanJuan.html
that includes references to most of the museums in Old San Juan.
The public bus (we call them "gua-guas") to Old San Juan is just across the footbridge from Coqui Inn. The A-5 Bus runs about every 15 minutes and takes about 40 minutes to reach the bus terminal at the edge of Old San Juan. The bus fare is only
seventy-five cents (exact change only)!
This bus will bring you close to any of the museums in Old San Juan. Make sure you check with each museum for opening days and times.
On your
way to Old San Juan, the bus passes just in front of the new fine art museum MAPR.
A little further - you'll find Centro de Bellas Artes
(our Fine Arts Center) and the new museum of Contemporary Art.
Note: The A-5 Bus runs all day to about 7pm. If you plan to stay in Old San Juan later than this, taxis can be found in 'Plaza Colon' near the statue of Columbus & the corner of Calle Fortaleza (near Starbucks, Aqua Viva, Dragon Fly). A taxi should cost approximately $20 for the return trip to Isla Verde depending on traffic and time (night surcharge may apply). Just carry along a card from the hotel to show your taxi driver for directions back to Coqui Inn.
