Coqui Inn is a great base for sightseeing during your trip to Puerto Rico. Guided tours are one of the favorite ways that our guests get to know our island during their first visit. Just ask any of our friendly front-desk staff what tours are available during your stay - and they'll take care of the rest! We work with several tour operators and will select the best tour option depending on your schedule and special interests.
You also many self-guided sightseeing opportunities if you prefer to explore San Juan at your own pace. When you check-in at Coqui Inn, you'll find the Puerto Rico Official Tourism Guide 'Que Pasa!' in the lobby area. Make sure you grab a copy and start to plan your visit. If you'd like to get a head start, you can register to see their online version before you arrive.
Shopping Centers are a big attraction for many of our guests - especially if they are visiting from other Caribbean Islands. Plaza las America's is about a 15-minute drive from Coqui Inn and is easily reached by taxi or car. The front desk staff can call a taxi for you - just stop by or call a few minutes before you want to leave. Once you're finished shopping, 'Plaza' has a taxi stand just outside of the entrance near Citibank and Hallmark Cards.
If you prefer to rent a car during your stay, the front desk staff can help you make arrangements with Dollar Rent-a-Car. They will pick you up at the hotel so its easy to rent a car for a day or two during your stay and explore the island on your own.
There is an excellent map of the San Juan Metro area
including Isla Verde and the airport at

marked VILLAMAR.
If you plan to explore the island by car - maps are

Our staff can help arrange any tour - our

Self-Guided Tours of San Juan
You can also do great sightseeing on your own if you want to explore San Juan without a guided tour. Just walking around in Old San Juan is enough to keep you busy for a day or two. You may also want to visit some of the museums in Santurce's new Arts & Culture district or Old San Juan on your own - even if you've already taken the guided tour. Both areas are easy to reach by the local bus.
There is an excellent online map of Old San Juan at
http://www.travelmaps.com/OldSanJuan.html
The public bus (we call them "gua-guas") to Old San Juan is just across the footbridge from Coqui Inn. The A-5 Bus runs about every
25 minutes and takes about 40 minutes to reach the bus terminal at the edge of Old San Juan. The bus fare is only
seventy-five cents (exact change only)!
The Bacardi Tour is a little more complicated to reach on your own. You can take the bus to Old San Juan and then look for the ferry to Cataņo where you can find vans to take you out to the Bacardi Factory for the tour. Just to the left of the bus station, along the cruise ship piers, you'll also find an exhibit from the 'Don Q' rum company if you don't want to make the trip over to Cataņo.
Even if you don't go to the rum factory tours, the ferry to Cataņo is only fifty cents each way and will give you an unforgettable view of Old San Juan from the water.
Note: The A-5 Bus runs from Isla Verde to Old San Juan all day to about 9pm (but its best to check when the last bus leaves). If you plan to stay in Old San Juan later than this, taxis can be found in 'Plaza Colon' near the statue of Columbus & the corner of Calle Fortaleza (near Starbucks, Aqua Viva, Dragon Fly). A taxi should cost approximately $20 for the return trip to Isla Verde depending on traffic and time (night surcharge may apply). Just carry along a card from the hotel to show your taxi driver for directions back to Coqui Inn. |
